About this job
Contract position (up to 14 months) for an Animal Control/Municipal Law Enforcement Officer I to enforce town by-laws with specialization in animal control, investigate animal-related complaints, and ensure compliance within Bradford West Gwillimbury's Enforcement Division.
Key Responsibilities
- Enforce municipal by-laws including animal control by-law through education, investigation, compliance, orders, and prosecution
- Investigate and respond to complaints involving animal welfare, stray/lost animals, aggressive animals, dog bites, and nuisance concerns
- Safely capture, contain, handle, transport, impound, or arrange appropriate disposition of animals using approved practices
- Issue Orders to Restrain, Animal Control Orders to Comply, warnings, and offence notices; prepare charges and attend Provincial Offences Court
- Maintain accurate investigation records, evidence, photographs, witness statements, and prepare disclosure materials
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Veterinary Technology, Animal Health Technology, Police Foundations, Law & Security, or equivalent
- At least one year of related Animal Control/Enforcement experience, preferably in a municipal environment
- MLEO Certification and ongoing membership with Municipal Law Enforcement Officers' Association (preferred)
- Valid Ontario class G driver's license in good standing
- Proficiency with information technology; ability to work varied shifts including days, nights, evenings, and weekends
