Full-time temporary Animal Control Officer 1 reporting to the Animal Services Supervisor. The role involves conducting investigations into animal-related bylaw violations, providing direction to Animal Services staff, handling animal capture and care, and appearing in court as a municipal witness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct and oversee investigations relating to Toronto Municipal Code, bylaws, and provincial statutes
  • Lead, direct and provide work instruction to Animal Control Officers 2
  • Capture, handle, restrain and transport domestic, exotic and wild animals; provide animal care including feeding, health observation, and euthanasia assistance
  • Draft investigation plans, gather evidence, conduct interviews and on-site inspections
  • Write detailed investigation reports, analyze findings, recommend resolution steps and appear in court as expert witness

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in law enforcement, municipal by-law, or criminology
  • Post-secondary certification or diploma in animal care from recognized institution or approved equivalent
  • Considerable experience working directly with animals
  • Considerable law enforcement experience preparing detailed investigation reports and applying municipal legislation
  • Valid Ontario Class G Driver's License; ability to obtain City Operator's permit
