The Aquatic Leader provides leadership and direction for aquatic programs and services at a City of Vancouver aquatic facility, overseeing staff engaged in swimming instruction, lifeguarding, maintenance, and custodial work while ensuring patron safety and delivering lifesaving instruction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure safety of swimmers and facility patrons
  • Instruct lifesaving programs and provide first aid as required
  • Supervise auxiliary staff and check work of swimming instructors, lifeguards, and maintenance personnel
  • Perform routine pool custodial work and provide cashier coverage
  • Assist in developing aquatic programs and prepare records, reports, and statistics

Qualifications

  • High school completion plus training and experience as a lifeguard and swim instructor, or equivalent combination
  • Current Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor (SI) certification required
  • Current Lifesaving Society Instructor (LSI) and National Lifeguard Service (NL) - Pool Option certifications required
  • Current CPR "C" and Standard First Aid certifications required
  • Sound knowledge of swimming instruction, lifesaving, pool chemistry, water filtration, and teaching methods
