Operate heavy equipment including asphalt pavers, rollers, and plows to perform summer and winter road maintenance for the City of Guelph. Report to the Supervisor of Public Works and perform duties related to roadway asphalt work, winter control operations, and equipment maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
Operate heavy equipment such as front-end loader, asphalt paver, roller, tractor, road saw, and sweeper in live traffic
Perform summer and winter road maintenance including asphalt repairs, gravel maintenance, and street sweeping
Operate combination tandem truck with plow and wing for winter control; perform manual snow, ice clearing, and salting/sanding
Complete daily activity timesheets, vehicle/equipment checks, inspection forms, and report variances in work plans
Comply with occupational health and safety regulations and immediately report hazardous conditions, vandalism, and equipment damage
Qualifications
Minimum Grade 12 education
One year relevant experience operating front-end loaders and DZ vehicles in live traffic and winter conditions, including asphalt paving and road maintenance
Current Class DZ driver's licence with good driving record; driver abstract required prior to start date
Demonstrated experience and knowledge of asphalt maintenance tools, equipment, and procedures
Ability to perform physical activities including lifting, digging, shoveling, and working in live traffic and severe weather; basic computer and work order system knowledge
