Assistant Plant Operator position with Saskatoon Water in the Utilities and Environment Department. Works under supervision of the Operations Manager to assist with wastewater treatment plant operation, monitoring systems, equipment maintenance, and sample testing.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor wastewater treatment plant operation, alarm systems, security systems and telephones using SCDA systems; review and compile reports
Operate wastewater pumps, automatic rakes, skimmers, bucket and hoist equipment used in treatment and disposal
Perform routine maintenance including skimming foam, removing scum, acquiring and testing wastewater samples, adjusting pumps and chemicals
Service and clean machinery and equipment; report operating deficiencies to Plant Operator
Ensure plant security and occupational health and safety compliance; conduct tours and odour compliance investigations
Qualifications
Class 3 Wastewater Treatment Operator Certification plus four years wastewater treatment experience (two as Assistant/Plant Operator), OR two-year post-secondary program in related field plus Class 3 exam plus two years as Assistant/Plant Operator
Certificate of Completion for California State University courses: Operation of Wastewater Treatment Plants Volumes I and II and Advanced Wastewater Treatment
Valid Fireman's Certificate and valid recognized first aid certificate
Valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver's Licence and current driver's abstract from SGI with safe driving record
Knowledge of wastewater treatment procedures, chemicals, safety practices; ability to perform minor repairs, handle hazardous chemicals, work calmly in emergencies
