Full-time temporary intern position (up to 2 years) delivering technical services related to enforcement of the Ontario Building Code Act and applicable laws. Responsible for ensuring public health, life safety, fire protection, and structural standards are met in building design and construction across Ottawa.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver technical services related to enforcement of Ontario Building Code Act and applicable federal, provincial, and municipal laws
- Ensure minimum standards for public health, life safety, fire protection, access, environment and structural sufficiency are met
- Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, codes, legislation and regulations
- Communicate with external and internal contacts regarding building code compliance
- Work in fast-paced, detail-oriented environment with strict service deadlines
Qualifications
- Completion of 3-year community college diploma in Architectural, Civil, Mechanical, Fire Protection, or Construction Technologist
- Minimum 1 year of general construction experience in building design and/or construction and inspection of buildings
- Completion of Ontario Building Code exams through MMAH in applicable areas within employer-determined timeframe
- Knowledge of construction drawings and development approval process regulations
- Knowledge of Building Code Act, Building Code, and referenced standards (CSA, ULC, BMEC, CCMC, TSSA)
