Trainee Communications Officer for the Ottawa Paramedic Service Emergency Medical Dispatcher program, responsible for receiving and assessing emergency medical calls, providing pre-arrival instructions, and dispatching paramedics and ambulances across Eastern Ontario under direct supervision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive and assess calls for medical assistance
  • Provide medical pre-arrival instructions to callers
  • Deploy emergency vehicles and paramedics to maximize coverage and efficiency
  • Assign appropriate ambulance/resources (air ambulance, bike team, marine and tactical teams) to emergency locations
  • Provide ambulance crews with pertinent emergency information

Qualifications

  • One year of post-secondary education in Emergency Communications, Public Safety or Health Care
  • Minimum 4 years customer service experience (face-to-face or telephone)
  • Current Standard First Aid, CPR and/or AED certificates
  • Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) Certification course desirable
  • Current Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) certificate desirable
