This permanent full-time role supports the FOCUS Toronto community safety and well-being initiative. The Community Development Officer coordinates collaborative risk-driven interventions, strengthens inter-sectoral partnerships, and leads community development services across Toronto.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides community development services to community-based organizations, elected officials, volunteers, and coalitions
  • Facilitates partnership tables with FOCUS lead partners and identifies collaborative approaches to enhance community safety
  • Coordinates and manages inter-sectoral program partnerships, networks, and integrated service planning related to community safety and well-being
  • Designs, delivers, and administers training and community-based initiatives to build capacity and leadership in community safety
  • Assesses community crisis and risk situations, gathers information, and activates relevant City and community responses

Qualifications

  • Considerable experience in community development and creating responses to address changing community needs
  • Considerable experience working with vulnerable communities to address social inequities and develop community mental health supports
  • Experience developing coalitions, inter-sectoral linkages, community advocacy, and capacity building
  • Experience designing and delivering culturally appropriate training tools and outreach materials
  • Degree in Sociology, Social Work, Community Health Promotion, or related field, or approved equivalent combination of education and experience
