COOP Student, Traffic Engineering

Co-op student position in Traffic Engineering with the City of Ottawa Traffic Operations Division for 4 months (January–April 2027). Student will assist with traffic engineering studies, field work, data analysis, and reporting related to traffic signal operations and traffic control systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform traffic engineering field studies including queuing, delay, travel time, and volume count studies
  • Investigate complaints about traffic signal timing and make recommendations
  • Conduct traffic data analysis using computerized tools such as Synchro
  • Prepare written reports summarizing field data and recommendations
  • Assist in capacity analysis and signal timing database preparation

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in a recognized co-operative education program in Civil, Transportation, or Computer studies
  • Currently in 3rd or 4th year of studies
  • Valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver's license with no more than 6 demerit points
  • MS Office proficiency including Excel and Word
  • Knowledge of traffic engineering is an asset; previous Civil/Transportation Engineering experience is an asset
