About this job

The Town of Cochrane seeks an experienced Municipal Treasurer/Chief Financial Officer to oversee financial operations, manage budgets, ensure regulatory compliance, and provide financial advice to Council and Senior Management. This is a permanent full-time leadership role reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and manage the municipality's budget, financial reporting, and strategic financial planning
  • Ensure compliance with provincial regulations and municipal policies
  • Provide expert financial advice to Council and Senior Management
  • Lead a team of finance professionals and foster collaboration and accountability
  • Enhance financial transparency and optimize resource allocation

Qualifications

  • 5 to 7 years of progressively responsible management experience in public sector or municipal government
  • University degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business Administration or equivalent post-secondary education
  • Professional designation – CPA or progression towards designation required
  • Demonstrated experience managing municipal budgets, financial planning and reporting
  • Proven knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS)
