About this job

Full-time permanent engineer position with Toronto Water's Process, Innovation & Energy unit. Two positions available in Wastewater & Stormwater and Innovation, Research & GHG Mitigation program areas, with rotation across multiple engineering disciplines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage assigned projects, ensure teamwork, quality standards, and continuous learning
  • Provide technical advice and expertise using engineering principles for operation, development, and maintenance of programs, facilities, and equipment
  • Initiate and lead technical studies and projects to solve engineering issues; direct project teams to meet timelines
  • Conduct and oversee research on drinking water treatment, wastewater, stormwater, instrumentation, data management, new technologies, sustainability, GHG emissions mitigation, and energy management
  • Prepare and review written materials including project plans, technical memoranda, reports, presentations, and procurement documents; prepare and submit regulatory reports to provincial and federal governments

Qualifications

  • Registered as Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Professional Engineers Ontario
  • Post-secondary degree in relevant engineering discipline (chemical, civil, mechanical, or environmental engineering)
  • Considerable engineering experience in wastewater or stormwater treatment, drinking water treatment, biosolids management, instrumentation & data analytics, utility GHG emissions mitigation, and/or energy management
  • Experience with data analysis, interpretation of results, and development of recommendations; experience with treatment process assessment, process optimization, and troubleshooting
  • Valid Ontario Class G Driver's License; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; fundamental knowledge of Safe Drinking Water Act, Ontario Water Resources Act, Nutrient Management Act, Environmental Protection Act, and Occupational Health & Safety Act
