Engineering Assistant II (Utilities Management)

Engineering Assistant II reviews and processes utility design drawings and construction plans for the City of Vancouver, operating AutoCAD and GIS software to ensure compliance with City utility standards and coordinates utility construction on City streets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate AutoCAD to check utility company plans for accuracy and completeness; access, extract, and input data into City GIS
  • Coordinate utility construction on City streets with utility companies, developers, contractors, and City departments to ensure compliance with City utility standards
  • Conduct field checks of utility drawings and construction projects; report findings to utility staff and arrange construction schedules and traffic coordination
  • Ensure adherence to existing policies and procedures; assist in establishing new policies to improve branch processes
  • Maintain accurate branch records using software products; perform plan filing, retrieval, reproduction, and clerical duties

Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by relevant technical courses in computerized drafting and related experience with heavy civil construction, preferably in a municipal setting, or equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Working knowledge and experience using desktop software including GIS
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Bluebeam
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Good written and verbal communication skills; ability to work as part of a team with minimal direction
