Engineering Intern position in Wastewater Engineering Division responsible for planning, designing, and managing engineering services and assets for water and wastewater projects under supervision. Role involves project management, contract administration, technical coordination, and stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plans, designs, manages and authorizes engineering services, operations and assets for small projects or components of larger projects
  • Conducts assessments and studies for project planning and optimization under supervisor direction
  • Develops and manages project schedules and budgets up to multi-million dollars
  • Administers contracts, interprets documents, authorizes payments and negotiates claims with contractors
  • Directs technical and survey staff on design projects; provides technical direction to construction inspectors

Qualifications

  • Degree in engineering or applied science plus progressively responsible related experience in municipal or project management environment (or equivalent combination)
  • Must be registered or eligible for registration as engineering intern with PEO, or actively pursuing Limited License with PEO
  • Knowledge of municipal engineering, relevant legislation (Occupational Health and Safety Act, Construction Lien Act, Environmental Protection Act, Environmental Assessment Act, Safe Drinking Water Act), Ontario Provincial Standards, Canadian Standards, and engineering standards
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office, computer aided design, specialized systems, and computer models
  • Communication and writing skills for directing contractors, preparing reports, conducting presentations to committees and councils, and responding to public inquiries
