Temporary full-time Gardener position reporting to the Horticulture Supervisor, performing horticultural activities including planting, pruning, fertilizing, and spraying on Town properties. Role involves designing floral areas, supervising part-time staff, and maintaining work records.
Key Responsibilities
- Design floral and shrub areas, schedule work, and organize supplies, tools, and equipment
- Operate tools and equipment safely and perform daily circle checks on all equipment
- Supervise part-time staff and instruct support staff in safe use, care, and maintenance of tools and horticultural practices
- Maintain daily electronic records of work activities, work orders, emails, CVOR Hours of Service, IPM spray logs, and forecasted work
- Apply safety precautions and procedures in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety Act and MOT regulations
Qualifications
- Certificate or diploma in horticulture or related discipline from recognized institution, or acceptable equivalent in education and experience
- Good knowledge of symptoms and control methods for common horticultural diseases and insects, with emphasis on integrated pest management (IPM)
- 2-3 years' training and practical experience in parks horticultural work
- Valid Ontario Ministry of Environment Landscape Exterminator License required
- Valid and unrestricted Ontario Driver's Licence Class G minimum; applicants with six or more driving record points are ineligible
