The Graphics Technician (Street Operations) develops and revises route maps for the Streets Operation Branch using GIS and data visualization tools. The role creates on-street asset maps, validates mapping services, and supports service trials and ongoing operations through multimedia visualizations and route optimization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create, update and optimize route maps using Route-Smart, ARC GIS and Adobe Illustrator
  • Illustrate current and future service patterns on city maps and generate multimedia visualizations
  • Conduct data testing, validation of GIS data, and develop data integrity procedures
  • Work with supervisors and front-line staff to provide timely route maps for service trials and operations
  • Identify mapping synergies between operations groups and support general mapping needs

Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade 12 plus courses in geographic information systems (GIS)
  • Related experience in planning, urban studies, sustainability, engineering technology, or environmental studies
  • Considerable knowledge of graphic design, computer-based graphics, and audio/visual presentation
  • Proficiency in Route-Smart, ARC GIS, Adobe Illustrator, Access, and Hansen (Infor ERP)
  • Ability to compile, enter, analyze and assemble geographic and non-graphic data using automated mapping systems
