About this job
This role manages and analyzes health-related data for the Epidemiology & Health Analytics team, extracting and interpreting statistical data from multiple sources, designing databases and visualization tools, and providing analytical support to public health staff and departmental initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Extract, manipulate, analyze, and interpret health data from local, provincial, and federal databases
- Design, develop, and maintain databases and interactive data visualization tools/reports
- Provide analytical and technical support for data requests, health status reports, and projects
- Generate maps using GIS software and maintain metadata of public health geo-referenced datasets
- Assist epidemiologists with outbreak investigations, health hazard analysis, and data collection tool development
Qualifications
- Master's degree (public health, health sciences, statistics, health informatics) plus 6 months related experience, OR 4-year university degree in related field plus 2 years population health data analysis experience
- Knowledge of privacy legislation (Personal Health Information Protection Act, Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act)
- Ability to extract, analyze, and interpret health data from multiple sources and identify data quality issues
- Skill in database development, management, and analysis
- In-depth knowledge of Excel, statistical software (SAS, R), business intelligence and data visualization software (Power BI, Tableau)
At a glance
- Temporary full-time, up to 15 months (ending February 4, 2028)
- 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm
- Hybrid: 2 days per week in office
- Location: 99 Regina Street, Waterloo, ON
- Union: CUPE 1883, Grade 013
