Lead Arena Service Worker role in Burnaby's Recreation Facilities unit responsible for supervising ice-making, refrigeration, and building maintenance operations at a multipurpose arena facility. The incumbent supervises staff, maintains equipment, ensures safety protocols, and manages preventive maintenance programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assign, review, supervise and participate in ice-making, building maintenance, janitorial and custodial work
  • Inspect and troubleshoot refrigeration and ice-making equipment, pumps, valves, filters, motors and gauges
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for ice resurfacer, edger, HVAC and related systems
  • Perform minor repairs, building maintenance work, and safety checks on fire extinguishers and alarms
  • Oversee private contractors and maintain inventory of cleaning products and maintenance materials

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 plus technical courses related to the work, or equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Considerable knowledge of ice-making and refrigeration equipment operating principles
  • Sound knowledge of HVAC equipment, plumbing, electrical systems and carpentry
  • Ability to supervise, assign and review staff work and operate arena maintenance equipment
  • Refrigeration Operator's Certificate, First Aid Certificate or equivalent, and valid BC Driver's License

Regular Full Time position
40 hours weekly, shifts scheduled 7 days per week between 5:30am and 1:30am, subject to change
CUPE 23 Inside Division Collective Agreement (Notes B and J of Schedule B apply)
