Key Responsibilities

  • Hold technical decision-making authority under Provincial Gas Safety Regulations and Vancouver Building Bylaw for Plumbing; serve as Gas Safety Manager
  • Manage and direct District Plumbing, Sprinkler, and Gas Inspections staff enforcing compliance with bylaws, codes, and regulations
  • Review inspectors' reports and evaluate staff performance; provide day-to-day technical guidance
  • Recruit, select, orient, coach, train, and develop Plumbing, Sprinkler, and Gas Inspections staff
  • Investigate gas incidents as part of BC Safety Act; answer technical bylaw questions from engineers, contractors, and owners

Qualifications

  • Professional university degree or diploma in engineering/building technology plus minimum 10 years experience after Red Seal qualification, or equivalent Trades Qualification in Plumbing & Gas
  • Certificate of Qualification in Plumbing and Certificate of Competency as Gas Inspector in British Columbia
  • Considerable related management experience in training and managing large teams performing inspectional/regulatory duties
  • Demonstrated leadership, project planning, and negotiating skills
  • Knowledge of Vancouver Gas and Building By-Laws and Provincial Gas Safety Regulations
