Motor Vehicle Mechanic position with Halton Region's Energy Fleet & Facilities division, reporting to the Supervisor of Fleet Services. The role involves performing scheduled inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs on Public Works, Halton Police, and Halton Ambulance vehicles, as well as aftermarket equipment installations and emergency repairs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled annual inspections, preventative maintenance and repairs to Public Works, Halton Police and Halton Ambulance vehicles, including off-road and small equipment
  • Perform aftermarket installations of equipment such as two-way radios, identification decals, electrical wiring/lighting and winches on new vehicles
  • Troubleshoot vehicle/equipment issues and perform non-scheduled and emergency repairs while on rotational mechanic stand-by duties
  • Ensure complete and accurate documentation on vehicle repair work orders, daily time sheets and work-related documentation
  • Comply with Occupational Health and Safety Act and Halton Region's safety standards and policies

Qualifications

  • Secondary school diploma and minimum five (5) years' experience in fleet maintenance
  • 310S (Automotive Service Technician) and/or 310T (Truck and Coach) certificates from Skilled Trades Ontario
  • Valid DZ license and Air Conditioning Certificate (Ontario Ozone Depletion)
  • Strong understanding of on-board vehicle computerized systems and electronic monitoring/diagnostic equipment
  • Experience with electrical systems, heavy equipment, backhoes, air and hydraulic systems, cutting torches, welding equipment and metal fabrication
