The City of Burnaby is recruiting for a Plan Checker 1, Plan Checker 2, or Building Technologist to perform technical and clerical work checking building plans for compliance with building codes, regulations, and municipal bylaws. Duties include reviewing plans, issuing permits, maintaining records, and responding to inquiries.

Key Responsibilities

Check building plans for compliance with building code, regulations, and municipal bylaws
Prepare and issue building permits using applicable software
Record and file plans, permit applications, and issued permits
Answer counter and telephone enquiries concerning regulations and bylaws
Prepare routine correspondence and reports; maintain records

Qualifications

Graduation from Institute of Technology with diploma in Building Technology or equivalent combination of training and experience
Knowledge of building plans, specifications, and ability to interpret construction plans rapidly and accurately
Sound knowledge of municipal bylaws, provincial building code, regulations, and building construction practices
Ability to perform mathematical calculations and prepare routine correspondence and reports
Valid Driver's License for the Province of British Columbia; Plan Checker 1 requires BOABC Level 1 Qualification (or enrollment in BOIT with 12-month completion requirement); Plan Checker 2 requires Level 2 Qualification (or enrollment with 18-month requirement); Building Technologist requires Level 3 Qualification (or enrollment with 24-month requirement)

70 hours bi-weekly; Monday to Friday 8:00 AM – 4:45 PM (Nine-Day Fortnight)
