Full-time temporary plant technician role at Toronto's wastewater treatment facilities, progressing to permanent after obtaining Class 4 WWT Certification. Operates and maintains wastewater treatment equipment, monitors processes, performs sample analysis, and responds to operational emergencies across three treatment plants.

Key Responsibilities

  • Adjust, inspect and evaluate wastewater treatment processes and equipment to optimize performance and maintain regulatory compliance
  • Operate and monitor plant process equipment including valves, pumps, compressors, boilers, incinerators, chemical dosing systems, and HVAC systems
  • Make process adjustments, respond to alarms and emergency situations to ensure safe and compliant operation
  • Collect samples, perform routine tests and analysis, and maintain records using manual or computerized systems
  • Identify operational changes and implement corrective actions; perform preventative maintenance and minor electrical/instrumentation work

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent and valid Class IV Wastewater Treatment Operator's Certificate (written exam under Ontario Regulation 129/04), OR minimum 2-year diploma/degree/certificate in environmental science, biology, chemistry from recognized Canadian institution with ability to obtain Class IV certification
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations applicable to wastewater treatment facility operation
  • Knowledge of activated sludge process, anaerobic digestion, dewatering, incineration, disinfection and nutrient removal principles
  • Ability to work with process control automation systems and interpret process information
  • Ability to alter unit process operations manually or using computerized technology
