Contract position (up to June 30, 2027) reporting to a Manager in Health Protection. Responsible for inspecting premises for legislative compliance, investigating public health complaints and hazards, and responding to health incidents under Ontario public health legislation.
Key Responsibilities
Inspect fixed premises (food establishments, personal service settings, drinking water systems, recreational facilities, tobacco retailers, etc.) for compliance with Ontario Public Health Standards
Conduct education and enforcement activities under the Smoke Free Ontario Act and Halton Region By-laws
Investigate health hazard complaints and potential rabies exposures
Investigate enteric communicable diseases and outbreaks
Respond to adverse drinking water incidents and prepare investigation reports
Qualifications
Degree in program approved by Board of Certification with Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors, plus current certificate in Public Health Inspection (Canada)
Strong evaluation and analytical skills with excellent written and verbal communication
Proficiency with MS Office and M365
Valid Ontario G class driver's license
Vulnerable Sector Check obtained within past 6 months by first day of employment
