The Residence Attendant provides tenant services, custodial, and administrative support in a non-market housing residence serving individuals with complex barriers including trauma, addictions, disabilities, and mental health needs. The role ensures a safe, compassionate environment while safeguarding the building and enforcing policies on assigned shifts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Make regular rounds of all floors, public spaces, and outside areas; monitor for fire hazards and maintenance problems; document and report issues
  • Engage with tenants; conduct daily wellness checks; listen to concerns; provide support within limits; refer tenants to outside agencies as directed
  • Respond to emergencies and incidents; de-escalate situations; administer First Aid; summon first responders; prepare incident reports
  • Monitor front desk/entrance area; ensure visitor sign-in/out; answer phones; relay messages; call taxis as needed
  • Perform janitorial duties including replacing light bulbs, mopping common areas and hallways, cleaning washrooms, removing garbage

Qualifications

  • Grade 11 education plus considerable related experience in non-profit housing working with people with mental health, addictions, homelessness, or poverty issues, or equivalent combination
  • WorkSafeBC Level 1 First Aid Certificate
  • Limited Boiler Operator Certificate
  • Working knowledge of mental health and addiction complexities including harm reduction principles
  • Ability to show compassion and respect for tenants; develop professional relationships; de-escalate conflicts; work independently and as part of a team
