Full-time temporary revenue clerk role in Toronto's Finance department responsible for collecting municipal taxes and debts. The position involves contacting delinquent taxpayers, processing payments, investigating complaints, and assisting ratepayers with payment procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contact delinquent taxpayers by phone or letter and conduct in-office meetings to negotiate municipal debt payments
  • Calculate penalties and interest for accounts in arrears
  • Investigate ratepayer complaints regarding outstanding accounts and document findings in TMACS/WMACS systems
  • Draft correspondence and collection letters, answer mail/phone/counter inquiries
  • Receive and verify payments, forward to Cashier for processing

Qualifications

  • Considerable experience in collections environment relating to tax or water billing
  • Considerable experience in customer service responding to inquiries by phone, email and in person
  • Considerable experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Knowledge of City of Toronto tax and utility collection procedures and municipal tax sale process
  • Knowledge of revenue management systems TMACS/WMACS (asset)
