The Safety Coordinator reports to the Human Resources Director and leads occupational health and safety assessments for the Vancouver Public Library. The role involves implementing safety programs, ensuring regulatory compliance, conducting inspections and training, and collaborating with managers and the OH&S Committee across all 21 library branches.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement and monitor compliance with safety and health programs in consultation with City of Vancouver Safety Specialist
  • Conduct audits, inspections, and worksite assessments; provide recommendations for OH&S regulatory compliance
  • Work with site supervisors on WSBC orders and ensure ongoing compliance communication
  • Represent VPL on the OH&S Committee and manage all committee follow-up matters
  • Provide training to staff, deliver Safety Talks, and conduct annual assessments (First Aid, Risk Assessment)

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree or diploma in a formal health and safety program
  • Minimum three years full-time safety management or consultant experience preferred
  • Experience conducting investigations and assessments for an organization or as a safety consultant
  • Considerable experience interpreting and applying BC Workers Compensation Act and OH&S Regulation
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driver's abstract
