Part-time school crossing guards assist elementary school children in crossing roads safely at designated locations in accordance with Ontario traffic and occupational health and safety regulations. The position is available for the entire school year from September to June.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist elementary school children in crossing roads safely at designated school crossing locations
  • Wear mandatory safety equipment supplied by the Town at all times while on duty
  • Exercise authority to require approaching vehicles to stop at crossings
  • Report and document problems to Supervisor of Crossing Guards
  • Apply safety precautions and procedures in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety Act policies

Qualifications

  • Superior customer service skills and ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Good sense of judgment to determine timing for safe traffic entry
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Highway Traffic Act
  • Dependable, available, of good character, with understanding of young people
  • Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods and carry a hand-held stop sign
