Front-line security position at The Gathering Place Community Centre focused on relationship building, safety, access control, and incident response. The role prioritizes violence prevention and de-escalation in serving low-income Downtown South community members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor entrances and manage facility access control
  • Conduct patrols, respond to incidents (verbal abuse, threats, physical aggression), and de-escalate conflicts
  • Provide emergency support including first aid and overdose response
  • Assist patrons with information and referrals; document incidents using Resolver system
  • Perform front desk clerical tasks and janitorial duties as required

Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade 10 (Grade 12 preferred)
  • Knowledge of Downtown Southside/Eastside communities and local agencies
  • Considerable knowledge of addictions, mental illness, conflict resolution and violence prevention
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, including incident reports
  • Proven ability to respond to incidents using defusing and de-escalation techniques; Police Record Check required
