About this job

Student-Solid Waste Management position reporting to the Manager, Waste Diversion Programs. The student will support waste diversion programs through operations, research, data collection, and community outreach over an 8-month term (January–August 2027).

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct observational audits of waste materials set out by residents at curbside and multi-residential buildings
  • Distribute information door-to-door to households with program information and schedules
  • Manage inventory of collection containers and assist with storage facility organization
  • Collect data and conduct analysis from curbside audits and site visits to support waste management research
  • Support community outreach activities and assist with production of materials and events to promote waste diversion programs

Qualifications

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with public outreach, customer service, and community engagement (asset)
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ontario G Class License required; post-secondary or graduate student in Engineering, Environmental Science, Education, Geography, Media/Communications, Social Sciences, or Humanities; must be returning to full-time academic studies in September 2027
