Veterinary Technician 1 working for Toronto Animal Services provides clinical and shelter support, including animal care, surgical assistance, and staff direction. Reports to the Manager of Animal Services at multiple locations across Toronto.

Key Responsibilities

  • Organize and direct daily clinic/shelter operations and monitor scheduled treatments
  • Oversee and participate in daily animal care including feeding, watering, grooming, and sanitation
  • Assign work, train, and provide direction to Veterinary Technician 2 staff and volunteers
  • Assist veterinarians with treatments, surgical and dental procedures, including anesthesia administration
  • Triage, assess, and monitor animals; collect biological samples and perform routine laboratory procedures

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education from Ontario Association of Veterinary Technicians accredited college program (Animal Health Technology or Veterinary Technology)
  • Extensive experience providing direct animal care and working in an animal shelter environment
  • Experience with computerized data/records management systems (e.g. Chameleon) and standard PC applications (Word, Email, Excel)
  • Registered status and membership in good standing with Ontario Association of Veterinary Technicians
  • Valid Province of Ontario Class G Driver's License or ability to obtain and maintain one

Full-time, temporary position (12 months)
10-hour rotating shift, 7 days per week, 80 hours in a 2-week pay period
Primary location: 1300 Sheppard Ave West; also must travel to 146 The East Mall and 821 Progress Ave
