The City of Guelph is hiring a Zoning Inspector I to perform enforcement of zoning matters, conduct property inspections for by-law compliance, and issue notices related to municipal regulations. The role focuses on quality customer service and continuous improvement within Building Services.
Key Responsibilities
Perform proactive enforcement of shared-rental housing matters
Conduct on-site inspections of properties for compliance with Zoning, CPP, Multi-Unit Residential Registration, and Sign By-laws
Prepare correspondence regarding municipal by-law violations and use confirmation
Issue Zoning Notices, Building Code Orders, and Provincial Offence Notices; attend court as necessary
Provide back-up coverage for Zoning Services team and establish good relations with public and staff
Qualifications
3-year diploma in Law and Security, Municipal Planning or related field, plus 2-3 years experience in zoning enforcement, municipal by-law enforcement, planning, building inspections, or property standards (or equivalent combination)
Valid 'G' driver's licence with good driving record; current driver's abstract required prior to start date
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Intermediate computer skills with Microsoft Outlook, Word and relevant software
Ability to perform physical requirements including walking, sitting, standing for extended periods; climbing, crawling, and stooping on regular basis; knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety Act; satisfactory Police Record Check required
