Success Story:
Ramara, Ontario is a pioneer among energy efficient towns across Canada. A proactive city council brought energy-producing solar panels to the town in 2010. The revenue generated by the solar panels plus an energy rebate from Ontario Power Authority’s saveONenergy program generated enough revenue to pay for Ramara’s complete street light changeover to LED in 2013. This allows for 100% of the energy savings from the LED street lights to finance other capital improvements.
RealTerm Energy analyzed Ramara’s current electricity usage and lighting, presented the town council with the savings projections that LEDs can deliver, and managed the installation of the new lights including recycling of old fixtures.
“It was a combination of Ontario’s Local Authority Services’ recommendation, RealTerm Energy’s proposal and the product we were choosing,” said Diane Duffy, Ramara Deputy Treasurer. “The fact that RealTerm Energy also worked first with local contractors was very important to Ramara.”
Ramara took advantage of RealTerm Energy’s expertise in managing the LED upgrade and installation to meet the town’s needs while staying within its constraints. This turn-key solution, called Design, Upgrade and Transfer,
allowed Ramara to self-finance the project and delegate the project management.
